The MapInfo software can implement and manage the geographic information systems (GIS) first set up at SOSUCAM in 2004 and gradually deployed in most of the SOMDIAA affiliates.

Thus, apart from the main people involved at SOSUCAM (topographer, manager of the fight against erosion, soil development and characterization manager, agronomists), representatives of the sugar business affiliates in Chad (CST), Congo (SARIS) and Gabon (SUCAF-Gabon) were also able to attend the training.

After a refresher session on the basic functions (geographic projection systems, map layer management, GPS data import, etc.) the workshop quickly moved to more complex functions such as theme map development, 3D map management, incline calculation, complex calculations and geographic data selection, and the link to the crop information system. 

After the workshop an action plan was developed to help each site identify - according to their specific needs and priorities - the work and surveys to be undertaken to make the most of this software and meet the operational and R&D needs of sugar production facilities.
