SOSUCAM launches Télémédecine ! E-mail

How do you make sure that your employees and local populations can receive emergency and first aid healthcare when your company is located in landlocked rural zones and when you cannot count on transportation infrastructures? That is a major issue for the SOMDIAA Group, which employs 11,000 people on the African continent, mainly in its sugar mills, in the middle of cane fields.

For several years now medical centers administered by the Group's sugar business companies have provided employees and their families direct access to and cheaper first aid healthcare in remote places. The sugar plants have gradually created their own hospitals, healthcare and nursing care centers, and have managed medical personnel recruitment and training.

While the Group's businesses do not intend to replace government healthcare systems they do feel concerned with the health of men and women living around their premises.  

In 2010 the SOMDIAA Group will pursue that commitment and innovate with telemedical consultations, which consists in practicing medicine through communication means in order to provide remote healthcare council and exchange medical information.

The Group chose N'Koteng, Cameroon as its first site to launch its pilot project in partnership with GENESIS TELECARE, a Cameroonese company specialized in that area.

The telemedicine center of N'Koteng was officially opened on February 18, 2010 in the presence of representatives of the Cameroonese Minister of Health as well as SOSUCAM health staff members. The first EKG tests and cardiology consultations will begin as early as March 2010 for SOSUCAM employees and outside patients.
